Val’s Kids

Introducing Kid’s Open Sewing Classes!

Our new format lets kids go at their own pace – no pressure. After completing their beginner session, (see “Beginners” below) kids ages 8 and up will be guided through their first few projects and thereafter choose their own projects (at their level) from the sample wall or special request (ie: learn to hem etc.). Mon., 6 p.m. – 7:45 and Sat. 2 - 3:45. Come once a week for $15 per session/$60 per mo.  Pay for a full month and receive Free Machine Servicing! (clean, oil & tension)

Absolute Beginners -  Schedule a private lesson 4 – 5:30 p.m. on Mondays or 12 noon on Saturdays. (Other times may occasionally be available.) In this session, students will learn to operate the machine and will make a small pillow - all supplies included. If you have a machine you'd like to learn on - bring it! Cost: $25

Pre-Registration required to hold seat. 342.3271

Val Demi

Mother taught me to sew at age 12. At the same time, I was developing art skills. I began designing my own clothes and stage clothes for various local performers. (The rock band, “Queen” actually inquired as to my becoming their designer but I’d turned it down as I hadn’t attended design school yet! I was accepted to college originally for Art but switched to Fashion Design attending Traphagen School of Fashion  in Manhattan. I did custom clothes and alterations locally and went on to a short stint in Rina DiMontella’s design house in the Philadelphia area and designing for a small company in New York. I later learned to work with leather doing alterations for a leather shop near Philadelphia. I went on to hand-painting on silk women’s wear in a center city Philadelphia studio. These pieces sold out of the Miami area.  I’ve taken on some unusual and greatly varied projects just to prove I can do them – like taking apart a pair of jeans, making a pattern from them and making a new pair!  (I don’t recommend it.)

Clothing, home décor and accessories – I still enjoy doing them all  - and teaching them to kids of all ages!
